St. Anthony Church in Crikvenica is a beautiful historic church known for its stunning architecture and religious significance, attracting visitors and locals alike.in the city center
St. Anthony Church
User reviews
St. Anthony Church, located in the Croatian city of Crikvenica, is a beautiful church situated on an elevated position above street level. To enter the temple, one must climb a staircase. Construction of the church began in the 1930s, following the design of architect Stjepan Rovesnjak. However, the belfry tower was not completed until the early 2000s. The church is a single nave structure, characterized by a modern style with some elements of neoromanesque architecture. These include the portal, eight arched windows above the entrance, two windows on either side, and arches inside the church supported by pilasters on the side walls. The most striking feature is a large beautiful arch that leads to the chancel. The church's light-colored facade is simple yet elegant. The entrance consists of a perspective portal formed by four decreasing semicircular arches. The first three arches rest on cylindrical columns with Corinthian-inspired capitals. It is a visually pleasing sight. The windows, flanked by small pillars, also have their own arches with a design similar to that of the portal columns. However, the windows on the sides of the entrance have a grill, unlike the others. Inside, the church is simply decorated, but this simplicity adds to its charm. The walls up to a ledge, above which the side windows are located, are painted light blue. The pilasters are painted grey. The rest of the walls up to the ceiling are light pink. The ceiling is flat and covered with dark brown rectangular wooden planks. Artistic chandeliers with ball lights hang from it. The atmosphere inside the church exudes inner peace and tranquility, thanks to the simplicity of the decoration, the natural daylight streaming through the windows, and the peacefulness of the location on a relatively quiet street. The high altar is also simple, predominantly made of marble with no ornate designs. As one enters the church, there is a side altar dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua, positioned between two of the aforementioned pilasters. It features a beautiful statue of the saint, made of white marble and enclosed within a black marble structure resembling a baldachin. It is a stunning work of art. Interestingly, the church does not have a pulpit. The belfry tower is truly impressive due to its height. It is square-shaped and consists of five sections, each with two or three windows on its sides. The tower is the same color as the church facade, except for the dark brown roof. At the top of the roof, there is a simple metal cross. This tower can be seen from various parts of the city, especially from the harbor, making it one of the landmarks of Crikvenica. A visit to this church is highly recommended. To fully experience the peacefulness of the place, it is advisable to sit quietly on one of the benches inside and try to clear your mind of any thoughts.
