Grožnjan (Grisignana) – This tiny circular fortified hilltop village stands on a promontory high above a verdant valley.

It is one of the best examples of medieval town planning in Istria. Sections of the original walls, including the 16th century original city gates, have been preserved to the present day.

These now protect a thriving artists’ colony. The town plays host to a centre for musical youth and has performances through the summer.
